Michele Telari | HIDDEN FORMS
One Art Space and NaeraArts are pleased to present Hidden Forms, the first New York solo exhibition of Italian artist Michele Telari, on view at One Art Space Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, June 28th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Curated by Naera Kim, Hidden Forms highlights Michele Telari’s abstract and atmospheric renderings of the multiple narratives inherent in the cityscape. Whether his tight hyperrealistic paintings that explore cavernous streets of New York or his dripping watercolors that depict an urban environment drenched by rain, Telari portrays the elegant essence of the city. His work offers a dual view of New York–at once, the highly energetic city that never sleeps and a more somber, muted metropolis. In his watercolors such as Water Signs, his painterly hand drifts into abstraction as Manhattan’s monumental landmarks such as the Empire State Building, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Chrysler Building fade and transform into ethereal lines and monochromatic colors.
Telari attended Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma where he studied the techniques visible in both his photorealistic and abstract styles. While based in Italy, New York’s dynamism captured his artistic eye, though he has also completed calmer landscapes and Roman cityscapes. He approaches New York as an outsider looking in, recognizing the vibrancy that New York residents might miss from the city’s unique tension of light and space, constructed by the copious monumental buildings, to its ephemeral, ever-changing dimensions.
