LandMark | A lineup of celebrated artists bring the background into the foreground, paying homage to some of New York’s most iconic Hip Hop sites in the inspired and culturally rich show, Landmark, curated by Kate Storch. Artists in the show have created works, adding their own artistic voice and style to memorialize the influential locations. 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop; this unique show is the perfect way to kick it off, shining a light on the history while adding a new entry on the timeline.

Before it evolved into the world wide phenomenon and multi billion dollar industry it is today, there were local schools, venues and parks that provided a place where Hip Hop Culture and artists emerged and thrived. They played a vital role in laying the foundation for the global force Hip Hop has become. This groundbreaking show plays with the idea of landmarks as locations, but also a pivotal moment in history. Landmark features a first class line up of accomplished artists all with their own signature style. Hip Hop has been a major influence in their lives and just like Hip Hop, their artwork has evolved into something more impactful than they had imagined.

Joe Conzo has taken some of the earliest and most recognizable hip hop photographs. He was referred to in the New York Times as “the man who took Hip-Hop’s baby pictures” and the New Yorker credited him as “the photographer who captured the birth of Hip-Hop.” In 2007, he released a seminal book, Born in the Bronx, presenting his iconic body of work. It garnered worldwide acclaim. His contribution to hip hop culture is immeasurable.

Artist Peter “Paid” Levine has over 35 years of experience in the art world, from writing graffiti, album cover design and logo creation. He also owned and operated a commercial sign shop. Jeff Henriquez, known for combining photo realism with elements of graffiti and street art culture, has been further developing and mastering his painting techniques for over two decades. He has had successful shows in D.C. at the Museum of Contemporary Art, La Casa De La Cultura in Boston, Atlanta, Saint Petersburg, Miami and New York City, and is a sought after muralist.
