In Celebration of Black History Month, One Art Space, Tribeca is honored to announce an upcoming landmark exhibition featuring the exceptional works of the renowned artist Purvis Young (1943  2010).

Purvis Young’s monumental paintings, will be on display in New York. This must-see show features stunning works by an artist whose creations have been acquired by prestigious institutions such as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art and many more. Many of the works in this exhibit have not been seen by the public.

Many of the works in this exhibit have not been seen by the public. YOUNG’S work uses evocative figuration to comment on social issues through motifs from art history and calls for a better future. His paintings have found homes among esteemed private collectors and A-list celebrities such as JANE FONDA, WILLIAN LOUIS-DREYFUS, LENNY KRAVITZ, DAN AYKROYD, DAMON WAYANS, JIM BELUSHI and more. David Byrne featured Purvis Young’s artwork on the album cover of American Utopia, underscoring how Young’s raw, lyrical vision traveled far beyond the streets where he first painted, where talk show host Geraldo Rivera interviewed him at the peak of his creativity.

One Art Space opened in May 2011, in the heart of Tribeca, NY and has both museum-caliber and emerging artists for 15 years. Located at 23 Warren Street in Tribeca, New York City, the gallery occupies a ground-level space with a glass facade, natural light and an inviting view from the street. The gallery mixes storied figures in New York’s art scene.
