Please join Gallery One Art SpaceBrooklyn Community Arts & Media (BCAM) High School, and our partner organization The Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA) in celebration of our 11th-grade teen photographers and their work completed during this 2020-21 life-altering year.

“Hold Still, Hold Strong” features photographs taken by 11th-grade students from Brooklyn Community Arts & Media High School during this year of unprecedented challenges. The exhibition features work from 20+ high school photography students that explore complex themes around beauty, strength, connection, isolation, marginalization, and justice. Armed only with their unique voices and the power of their mobile phones, students created inspiring photographs and accompanying text descriptions of how they perceive the world during these difficult times.

Please join us in celebration of these voices through the powerful photography created by our talented BCAM artists. Your support will help to create a professional exhibition experience for our students and directly support future arts programming at BCAM.

At BCAM High School we believe art creates a space for both exploration and expression. We believe art connects audiences, empowers communities, and creates a platform for meaningful social change. BCAM’s art classes connect concepts and topics to the real world and lives of our students. We encourage our students to use art as a tool to think critically about the world in which we live, challenging the dominant narratives that have promoted racial, political, and economic injustice. Now, more than ever, it is crucial that the voices of our young people are heard.

BCAM is a small public school located in Bedford-Stuyvesant, founded in 2006 with a mission to provide students from underserved communities with a comprehensive education that prepares them for 21st century academic, creative, and professional success. Through an art, media, and technology-enriched academic curriculum emphasizing community collaboration, we challenge students to think critically and create knowledge in pursuit of personal excellence and meaningful social change.
