Renowned artist Namsook Kwon’s solo exhibition at One Art Space opens on December 22nd. The exhibition, themed around various transformations and series celebrating the birth of Jesus, is divided into five interconnected parts.
Namsook, a cultural figure who values both conceptual and technical aspects of art, sees her work as a tool displaying the artist’s spiritual state within the unseen flow of spirituality. She hopes her art will overcome the darkness in NY’s art scene and serve as a light to others.
As a pastor’s wife and an artist, Namsook confidently intertwines her faith and artistry. She envisions Eden as a place where one communicates with God through words and prayers while creating art that encapsulates the journey of peace and covenant.
Her art consistently communicates the life of the redeemed, enjoying Christ’s blessings, and entrusting everything to God through prayer. The exhibition reflects her unshakable faith and aims to bring gratitude and awe for salvation.
Namsook, a graduate of Sookmyung Women’s University’s painting department, has participated in over 200 group exhibitions, including international art fairs in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and Hong Kong. She currently serves as the vice president of the Korea Contemporary Art Association.
In her artist’s note, Namsook describes herself as a pilgrim of drawing, walking the path of a dreamer, aspiring to bring God’s kingdom into her art. She envisions her paintings as a conveyance of life, much like David’s stone in God’s hand, radiating light in this dark era.
Her artwork, inspired by biblical themes, is a testament to her belief in the power of prayer and the boundless abilities granted by God. The artist’s prayer is that her creations, imbued with the energy of layered colors and the influence of divine abilities, become a beacon of light worldwide.
The exhibition, titled “Dreaming Eden,” runs from December 21, 2023, to January 7, 2024, at One Art Space, 23 Warren Street, New York, NY 10007. The opening reception is on December 22, 2023, from 5-8 PM. Curated by Grace Ji, the event promises a unique exploration of faith and art.
