Queens College MFA Group Exhibition / Explorations: Revisited – March 17 to 26, 2014

The Queens College MFA program presents the work of 16 artists in Explorations: Revisited at One Art Space in Tribeca, New York City, from March 17 to 26, 2014. The opening reception for the exhibit will take place on Saturday, March 22, at the gallery from 6:30 to 9 pm.

Mining styles that run the proverbial gamut of this post-postmodern era, Explorations: Revisited examines the work of MFA students at Queens College. Crossing disciplines is a highly favored feature of this exhibit, curated by A.M. Weaver. These artists, not exclusively confined to the traditional parameters of painting and sculpture, explore technology, photography, and mixed media. However, those who have traces of modernist tendencies in their work go beyond these boundaries and infuse personalized visions of form and space.

Flush with elements of the experimental, the artists in this exhibit definitely push toward cutting-edge idioms with world purviews that are pluralist at their root. While some of the artists are in states of flux, transitioning from painting and drawing to video and performance art, others navigate the waters of art as social practice and its implications in communities and the public-art sphere.

The MFA program at Queens College endeavors to foster the development of young and mature artists and to build careers. Queens College MFA graduates have gone on to direct significant art programs, serve as professors at colleges, universities, and art institutions throughout the country, and win prestigious awards and grants.
