The Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA) New York Metro Chapter is excited to present its first art exhibition, Between Shores: Reimagining Formosa, a group show celebrating the richness of contemporary Taiwanese art. At a time when Taiwan’s visibility in the U.S. is growing across media and political discourse, this survey examines what it means to be rooted in Taiwan while growing, evolving, and thriving in the United States.

Spanning from the 1980s to today, Between Shores: Reimagining Formosa brings together sixteen artists to explore the evolving meanings of Taiwanese identity. Curatorially, the exhibition unfolds in two thematic currents: some artists confront migration, identity, and belonging, using personal narratives to challenge dominant frameworks, while others envision alternative worldviews, celebrating joy, liberation, and resilience.

Altogether, Between Shores: Reimagining Formosa weaves personal narratives and historical contexts across diverse mediums. These works are not merely reflections—they are powerful acts of resistance and remembrance. By showcasing the work of living artists, the exhibition advocates the immediacy and relevancy of their voices. Between Shores: Reimagining Formosa offers perspectives on the past, responds to the urgency of the present, and sparks new possibilities for Taiwan’s future on the global stage.

Artists in the exhibition include Vanessa Chen, Pin-Hsin (Cynthia) Chu, John Chia Hsuan Kuo, Ming-Jer Kuo, Ying Chiun Lee, Ingrid Yi-Chen Lu, Chang-Ching (Casper) Su, Hui-Ying Tsai, Calvin Tsai, Rosalie Yu, Yu-Jei Yen, Chin Chih Yang, Chia Yun Wu, Ching-Wei (Way) Wang, Leigh Wen.
