The Venezuelan American Endowment for the Arts (VAEA) will present the fourth editionof the “5X5” exhibition series “5X5 Real UnReal”, which unites the work of fiveVenezuelan artists and five North American artists with the idea of promoting both aphysical and virtual dialogue among the artists and to investigate and celebrate theuniversal language of art. In this opportunity, “5X5 Real UnReal” that took place last yearat the Museo de Arte Acarigua-Araure (MAAA) in Portuguesa, Venezuela, curated byRolando J. Carmona and Conor Risch, will be exhibited in New York at One Art Spacefrom November 7th to November 30th of 2013. VAEA is proud to carry out another editionof “5X5” and continue to promote art and culture between two nations as Venezuela and the United States.
The participating artists artworks were created in two different contexts, but coincide inmany of their dynamics: The North American artists speak of power relations around theindustrial production, natural resource management, and consumer industry. But reality inVenezuelan context adds other variants: What is art in a rural context? The differencesbetween high and low culture, cultural appropriation, or the “Normality” of magic realism. The audience will appreciate the work of: Nayari Castillo, Richard Garet, Pepe Lopez,Yucef Merhi, Juan Carlos Rodriguez, Nathan Anspaugh, Zhivago Duncan, J. Henry Fair,Justin Maxon and Daniel Shea.
