Anna K. + Sophia Robot | September 27-29, 2022

Opening reception Tuesday, September 27th, 6-9pm

Opening September 27th at One Art Space in Tribeca, multimedia artist Anna Khachatryan will debut a new body of work alongside art created by Sophia the robot, the world’s most famous android. The vernissage will take place from 6-9pm on Tuesday, Sept. 27th, and will double as the UN General Assembly’s closing reception. The exhibition will remain on view through the 29th.

As the latest joint endeavor by Anna K. and Sophia Robot, this exhibition continues their creative collaboration that began in 2020, following Sophia’s meteoric rise as a global influencer and pop culture phenom. Since then, Anna K. has incorporated Sophia into her videos, digital art and mixed media works as a cyborg-muse for the post-internet era.

Digitally born and programmed using AI and machine learning, Sophia embodies the so-called “uncanny valley”—a feeling of unease triggered in humans by deceptively humanoid robots. Sophia is also an established artist in her own right, having sold her NFT artwork for almost $700,000 in 2021.

Similar to Andy Warhol, Anna K. extrapolates Sophia Robot’s celebrity essence and cultural caché through her own art practice—thereby critiquing society’s obsession with viral fame, emergent technologies, and digital escapism. Her art, which has recently been exhibited at the National Arts Club in Manhattan, depicts surreal scenes that combine virtual dreamscapes with a dystopian DIY aesthetic.

Based in New York since 2016, Anna K. was born in Armenia where she studied film and television production at Slavonic University. She has collaborated with the band Blonde Redhead, fashion icon Patricia Field, and non-binary performer Frankie Storm, among other pop culture iconoclasts. Anna K.’s films have been selected for international festivals, including the La Jolla Fashion Film Festival in California.

The opening reception at One Art Space will also kick off a series of immersive events led by No.3 Magazine—the art, design, and lifestyle publication—and produced for an exclusive guest-list of VIPs, talent, media outlets and No.3 Collective Token holders. No.3 Magazine is building a community of stakeholders and disruptors from the fields of fashion, tech, music, visual art, and Web3 innovation.

For the Anna K. + Sophia Robot exhibition, No.3 Magazine has teamed up with experiential activation agency Let’s Disrupt Digital, as well as UK wellness brand Bou Wellness, Hot Salad Catering and Akasi Collection, among other sponsors.
